Nature: 3 hours per week, 8 month commitment
Duties:
1. attend 6 week Parent Ambassador training
2. complete 6-8 month practicum, weekly shift at family drop-in centre
3. assist newcomer families communicate with program staff through language and cultural interpretation
4. provide newcomer families with information to community resources under guidance of centre staff
5. welcome families to centre; interact with families
6. assist with family drop-in duties such as snack preparation and children’s arts and craft activities
Qualifications:
1. Able to communicate in English (min level ELSA 4) and another language – Mandarin, Cantonese, Farsi, Dari, Korean, Hungarian, Spanish, Arabic, Serbian, Nepalese strongly desirable
2. Permanent Resident of Canada, 3+ years preferable
3. Experience and/or interest working with families with diverse backgrounds
4. Parenting experience and/or experience working with families with young children
5. Knowledge and/or interest in Early Childhood Development field
6. Knowledge of Tri Cities resources for families with young children an asset
7. Previous work and/or volunteer experience in Canada an asset
Duration:
Training begins May 2010 and Sept 2010
Two practicum, 3-4 months each
Various family drop-in locations in Tri-Cities area
